After Innocence
Was there a specific scene that got to you? Describe and explain how it moved you.
The specific scene that got to me was in the very beginning of the documentary, this guy talked about how this girl lying about him raping her changed his life forever. This man said he couldn’t sleep at night and he couldn’t trust women the same ever again. The girl who claimed to have been raped by this man was a complete stranger to the man, he had never met her in his life. This really got to me because I see a bunch of stuff on social media of these stars getting in trouble for raping minors, but a lot of these minors either lied about their age to the celebrity or lied about it all together. These celebrities will probably be in jail for the rest of their life just because someone lied.
What surprised you? Why do you think it caught you off guard?
Something that surprised me in this documentary was why they didn’t test for DNA during the trials. The judges will allow for testing for DNA after years of them being in prison. This caught me off guard because if they would have tested for the DNA to begin with, these innocent people could have avoided prison all together.
What questions remain after the viewing? What feelings stayed with you after the film?
The question I still have viewing the documentary is why do these girls lie about being raped? What’s the point of putting an innocent man in prison? I will never understand it. I feel bad for the people that are wrongfully sentenced. They didn’t commit these crimes but they are doing the time. The people that did commit the crimes are still roaming around free.
Why might we avoid including research in our summaries? What could go wrong?
I would avoid including research in summaries because it would show too many facts and that’s not what summaries are about. The thing that could go wrong is that the summary wouldn’t make sense.
This seems like an interesting film to watch. It is sad to hear that people go to jail for the dishonesty of others. It also doesn't make sense why they weren't doing DNA tests. I have the same question as you do. It makes no sense as to why someone would want to lie about being raped. The only result of lying about that is imprisonment of an innocent person, which is heartbreaking.
